Eat
in Chengdu - Eat Japanese (food)!
Chengdu
has several 'Japanese' restaurants, as well as branches of Ito
Yokado, the Japanese department store.
Sadly, we're going out to eat now, so there's time to list just the one., apart
from mentioning the one on KeHua BeiLu in the SoHo shopping arcade, the Hokkaido
ones on KeHuaJie, ChunXi Lu (nice lunch and buffet deals - around 75 rmb for
all the food and drink you can get in you) - and somewhere else. There's a nice
Korean grill place (Amani Grill) diagonally opposite the south Carrefour, too.
Hokkaido (Běi hǎi dào / Bei3 hai3 dao4: 北海道) - around
75 rmb for all you can eat and you get beer thrown in before you get the chance to return it for free. You order by ticking the options on the little booklets of dockets (dooklets of bockets sounds cuter?) and the fish, sushi, pork, chicken, veggie stuff etc is brought to you very rapidly and in decent surroundings, in a handy location for the centrally located. It's on ChunXiLu, I think, opposite the Dico's next to ItoYokado. Walk up the steps where you see a bored attendant. The restaurant is on the 1st floor if you're a Brit, on the 2nd floor if you dare to defy tradition and use some sort of logic. Bah! Colonials! Tel. 028 86651828.
Kyoto Restaurant - around
200 metres south of TianFu Square, just left off RenMinNanLu, next
to a Dico's on the 1st floor (2nd floor if you're not a Brit).
Nicely air-conditioned, willing service, and the food is OK. Menu in English
and Chinese. Nice lavs, too. Afternoon buffet from 2 to 5-ish with colour of
the plates indicating the price of a dish (5 rmb to 12 rmb?) and sake and Jacob's
Creek available. Nice place away from the madding crowd for afternoon tea and
coffee, too. 028 86668269.
