Paul French explained how he had discovered
a fascinating archive of material about Carl Crow, Shanghai
businessman, entrepreneur, hostage negotiator, advertising
exec, top-level wartime propagandist, political interviewer,
and proprietor of an alliterative name, and felt compelled
to tell his story. Paul,
who has also written on North Korea and lives and works in
Shanghai, was entertaining and informative, and conveyed
his fascination with the life and times of Carl
Crow, a man whose life seems to have had very few dull
moments, unlike the expat residents of Shanghai when Carl
first arrived in Shanghai early in the 20th century.
Interesting talk and the book is a great read, too.

Much better review of the books on Amazon
